The revival of religious or spiritually inspired music by so many composers and artists in the last 20 years is a sign of a profound change in the arts, and of their engagement with society. This conference explores why and how composers have sought to convey religious or spiritual expression through music.
James MacMillan gives the keynote address in the afternoon, with presentations on Poulenc, Stockhausen, spirituality and musical meaning during the morning.
Conference organised by Robert Sholl, under the auspices of the Royal Musical Association, in association with Thames Valley University, London.
