The revival of religious or spiritually inspired music by so many composers and artists in the last 20 years is a sign of a profound change in the arts, and of their engagement with society. This conference explores why and how composers have sought to convey religious or spiritual expression through music.
Jonathan Harvey and Francis Pott give the keynote addresses, with presentations on Penderecki, Part, Schnittke, John Adams and Tavener throughout the day.
Conference organised by Robert Sholl, under the auspices of the Royal Musical Association, in association with Thames Valley University, London.
